How to Drastically Speed Up Microsoft Excel

Excel is the office worker’s best friend for life, and arch nemesis at the same time. You just can’t imagine yourself doing all those accounts, auditing, financials, without the use of this heaven-sent software. The major problem of Excel is its way too robust feature sets and buried functions, and you have to keep on digging in search for the function that you would like to use for your workbook.
The other problem is keeping Excel running, as your sheets or workbooks expands, Excel crawls to a pace that you can’t even imagine. It is not the problem of your machine; certainly you don’t need 16GB worth of RAM with Quad Processor as CPU not unless you are auditing the world’s daily expenses. It is in the set-up of your Excel. For starters, here are some few tips.

Automatic calculations— If the crawl is intolerable, turn off the automatic calculations. This will ease up your workbook that has complex calculations, with huge databases that requires excel to keep on refreshing performing all the calculations live. You can change the setting into manual through the Options dialog. If you want to update the sheets, and perform the calculations, you can always press F9 like what you do in refreshing web pages in browsers.

Formats— Formatting is, more often than not, the reason your workbooks in snail pace. Save the workbook as new file so that it will purge the formats and it won’t bloat. Like how it used to be with The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, if you played it back in 2006. Aside from that, you can always clear formats on selected cells. Make use of that ribbon interface, it was put up there for a reason.

Use Search Commands— Yes, the ribbon interface promised to put functions of every MS Office suit at the face of the users for easier, for the lack of a better word, use of the functions. However, some of the vital functions are buried inside the menu. You can always install the add-on, Search Commands, so ribbon won’t be a problem since you just have to search commands and functions at will.

Delete Name Ranges, Excess Formatting, Unnecessary Areas Simply put, just follow the instructions carefully. That is basically, it.

Array Formulas— It is pretty tempting to use the Array formulas to automate everything, but sometimes, this is the problem: automation for the reason that it keeps Excel from performing calculations synchronically. Use Array formulas if it is really needed.

Rule of thumb: if the array formulas are IF statements, get rid of it.

Paste Values— If the data you are going to include in invoices, audits, sheets, etc. etc. are no longer going to be updated, just paste the values. Get rid of the formulas so that it won’t slow down things.

• =if(iserror) <iferror: Change =if(iserror) <iferror to speed up that processing.

Images— Yes, sometimes, the images we put on the rows and columns are actually the ones slowing down everything because of its huge unnecessary footprint.

Last, but not least – utilize a course in Excel to become a more avid user of the program. A faster program and a faster user will create results in no time!

Progressing Web Development with ASP.NET

Asp.Net is Microsoft web application and development technology made specifically for programmers to build dynamic websites, web services and web applications. ASP.NET is far better than other script-based technologies, including Classic ASP. Its superiority reflects in its ability to compile the server-side code to DLL files to one or any number of files on the web server.
Even if JavaScript provides a better and faster web experience, the restrictions on the net and the various types of browsers pave the way for HTML or Hypertext Markup Language to be the number one choice. Using DotNet development asp.net web developers can process the website code and return it to the server in a flexible way which is suitable for both HTML and JavaScript. If the browser provides support to HTML then HTML can be used.

However, if JavaScript is present then it will be used to get richer browsing experience. A website which has been built using ASP.NET apps development, even if confined to HTML, may offer enhanced performance. With the use of asp.net website development technology, asp.net web developers gain the capability to offer more comprehensive and well integrated set of features with more than just mediocre business solutions. Asp.net web developers can develop web apps solutions formulated for businesses to enhances its cost efficiency, communicate in improved ways with customers, suppliers and workers and to enhance sales opportunities.

A perfect ecommerce solution that has been framed with the help of ASP development technology is not just an integration of technology parts but instead is a perfect mix of effective business analysis with best industry practices and client input. ASP.NET development is perfect for large enterprises, web enabled businesses and institutions that require large apps to manage remarkable volumes of everyday business transactional activities.

Turn a Blog into a Business

If you already have a blog and already have regular followers and readers, why not use your prominence to make some money? After all, you have done the hard part: Writing the content and getting an audience. Many bloggers never make it that far. Once you have devoted readers, it is relatively easy to turn them into paying customers. So if you have a blog that you are happy with, but aren’t making any money off of it, consider these ideas for turning it into a money tree.
 Add a Store

Blogs are popular marketing tools for online retailers. Once they have an online store set up, they will start writing a blog that relates somehow to their merchandise, in hopes that the blog will attract readers and then feed those readers into the store. This is a workable approach, but it is hard to draw readers into a blog. On the other hand, it is really easy to set up online stores and add them to Premium WordPress themes. So if you have readers, ask yourself what kind of products those readers might like to buy, and then start selling away. Be careful, though: The blog should remain your focus, at least for the time being. Grow the store slowly, so readers don’t think you are giving up writing and turning commercial.

Write for Others

If you have a personal brand, you are in a very fortunate position. Whereas most small bloggers will pay to have their work included on larger blogs, many big bloggers can command writing fees to contribute their work to small blog, magazines, and newspapers. If you have contacts at other blogs, or in the journalism community, let it be known that you are willing to write on your chosen topic on a freelance basis. To grow your reputation as a freelancer, do an article or two for free, or for small outlets. Soon, the bigger outlets (that cut bigger checks) will come calling.

Add Affiliate Links

So maybe building a store or writing additional articles for other blogs and publications is more work than you care to do. If you don’t want to add to your work load, consider putting some affiliate links on your blog. This takes almost no time, and when your readers click on them and then buy from whichever store they link to, you will get a percentage of their purchase price.

Things to Consider Before Engaging with Cloud Computing

Ever since the Cloud came in to our lives, we have been experiencing a lot of benefits from it. So, using the Cloud for a business edge seems very logical, right? But then again, you really have to consider some factors that Cloud Computing may not be for your business. You may experience a lot of advantages, due to the Cloud, but then again, there are certain drawbacks to look out for.
There are a bunch of factors that can be seen as a major role in the utilization of cloud computing. But then again, and believe it or not, but there are a lot of businesses that move their local services to the cloud and have neglected to consider all the factors that are involved with utilizing the cloud. And by not doing so, you leave your business open to every pitfall possible, because you just jumped into the cloud bandwagon.

Now, moving your business over to the cloud is a great step to increase the flexibility, reliability and accessibilty of your business, and a clear win if done right. So, here are some points to consider before moving your business to the cloud. Remember, careful planning is the way to go.

First of all, you have to consider if all of your programs, or let's just say the key programs can run in the cloud? You have to think about compatibility. The cloud works for you in terms of productivity, and your programs and apps also do the same. So, when you take one over the other, you are just back where you started, and before counter-productive. Remember, that you may be using third-party programs that may not be compatible with the cloud.

And with that, you have to also consider the speed of your Internet Service Provider. There is no use in taking your business to the cloud, if you can't even access it with ease.

You will also have to check if your updated to the latest compatible operating systems and programs for your cloud. Synchronization is the keyword here. Outdated programs will not probably meld well with the cloud.

The main purpose of cloud computing is efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. And if your cloud does not satisfy this, then it defeats the purpose. The factor of balancing your cost during your transition should be greatly looked into.

And lastly, all great ideas should always have a contingency plan. Because let's face it, in business, nothing is sure. In every methodology, there will always be a problem, and you should be prepared for it. Back up, back up back up. A data back up away from the cloud is always a good rule of thumb.

Now, after satisfying these considerations, you can make a vivid ruling on whether your business is feasible to be moved to the cloud, or not. Remember, a business method that should work in giving you efficiency and productivity, should do so. Otherwise, carefully review again these considerations on where the deficiency started, assess it, and fix it.

In conclusion, moving your business to the cloud can be both convenient and profitable, but you do have to be certain of what you have, and what you want to get out of the transition. Business is always about factoring in every scenario, and by doing that, a return on investment is well on its way.

5 tips for working with Alfred on Mac

Alfred is a wonderful addition to a standard Spotlight search which makes your work on Mac simpler and more effective. Whether you’re an experienced Alfred user or just get acquainted with this application, here’re 5 tips for working with it.

1. Start using open and find commands

By default Alfred decides independently what to do with the founded file or application when you click on it. But if you type the open or find command before your request, then Alfred, correspondingly, will launch or will show you the file in Finder.

By the way, you may not even type open command. Instead of it, just put a space or ‘ sign before your request.
2. In command searches for information in files

If you don’t remember in which document you have written down the recipe of a new dish, then the command In is something that will surely help you.

3. Learn the commands that help you manage your Mac

At your disposal there’s a whole list of standard functions: Lock, logout, sleep, screensaver, restart, shutdown, trash, emptytrash, etc. You may find other commands by the path Alfred → Features → System Commands. Also there you may change the shortcuts for the commands.

Don’t forget that on typing them autofill is running, so you don’t have to type full commands.
4. Type in only key letters from the names of the apps

If you have a lot of programs with similar names installed on your Mac, then you only need to type in the key letters. For example, if you want to find Photo Booth app, you may type photo b, but also you may simply type pb.
5. Hide Alfred from the upper menu

As you can launch Alfred any time by a shortcut Option+Space, it’s not necessary to keep it in the upper menu. You can hide it via the settings. Also in the settings you may hide the Hat icon from the search window.
P.S. If you work with Alfred, then you may hide the Spotlight icon from the upper menu. In order to do that, launch terminal and insert the following command:

$ sudo chmod 600 /System/Library/CoreServices/Search.bundle/Contents/MacOS/Search

To bring the icon back insert the following:

$ sudo chmod 755 /System/Library/CoreServices/Search.bundle/Contents/MacOS/Search]

And don’t forget to reload menu each time with this command:

$ killall SystemUIServer
