SteelSeries Scope Gaming Eyewear - Complete Review

Mark Pickavance's Complete Review on SteelSeries Gaming Eyewear.
The fact that I review alone in the privacy of my own office isn‘t without its benefits, I‘ve concluded. One of these is avoiding the witty remarks that would be sent in my direction if my children ever saw me wearing the SteelSeries Scope Gaming Eye wear. Seriously: just how geek can one man become? That said, I approach all review items with a degree of scepticism, and I had a truckload handy when I put these on for the first time. However, before 1 get on to what they're like, let's review the thinking behind these glasses, created by the highly respected team at Gunnar Optiks for SteelSeries.

The lenses on them are coloured yellow (AMBeR as Gunnar describes it), specifically a hue designed to take out the blue/white light that LCD LED panels tend to generate as the background to Office apps and web pages. By cutting this intensity, the wearer can experience better contrast, and in theory, less eye strain.
They‘re just not tinted, though, they're also a tiny bit prescriptive. The curve on these lenses is tuned to +0.2 dioptres, which is designed to help with the close focus that the eyes rely on when viewing a monitor. For those who wear glasses and actually need a prescription stronger than  that, Gunnar do have RX options. However, I'd image having a pair of these to your exact spec could be expensive, though I have no hard numbers to give you.

For everyone else the +0.2 dioptre curve should allow the lens muscles to relax more when working at the screen, and that in turn should result in less tiredness and eye strain, but the critical point here is does it work? Yes, but with caveats. The first few days I used these I hated them with a passion, because they actually seemed to make my eyes more tired than they normally become. I persevered, however, and eventually my eyes got used to to accepting the help, and they started to work much, much better.
I can imagine that this process, which could easily take a couple of weeks, could put many people off, but I can also assure you that they do eventually make a genuine difference. Although they're specifically pushed as ‘gaming eyewear' they offer the most benefit to me when I'm working with Microsoft Word, as the black letters on a white background have a much higher contrast. it could be argued that better monitor adjustments would help with this, but the Scope glasses work on all screens however they've been configured. Where they're not going to find favour is with those who colour adjust graphics for a living, but you can't please everyone.
What else should I mention? They weigh only 20g, which in one breath tells you that they're light to carry, and in another that they're not remotely robust. They come in a soft carry pouch, but if I'd spent this much on a pair of specs I'd want to put them in something more likely to protect them from being sat on - or other such terminal fates.
They are expensive, but if you spend a long time in front of a screen on a regular basis, you might consider the investment in supporting your eyes is worth it.

Apple's New Mac Pro - Impressive Computing Power

Amid all of the fuss about the complete redesign of the venerable iOS operating system for iDevices, as well as OS X Mavericks and iTunes Radio, we had another significant announcement in the keynote at the 2013 Worldwide Developers Conference, in one of Apple's key frontiers to prove that it continues to innovate. That announcement was of a new Mac Pro, and you can rest assured that it bears not many similarities to the average Mac Pro. That much was clear from its distinctive glossy, cylindrical shape.
The declaration of Apple's senior vice president of worldwide marketing Phil Schiller that the Cupertino company ”can't innovate any more? My ass!" perhaps gives the game away as to the extent to which the firm wishes to recover its stature as a fulcrum of pioneering verve. As always, though, it's on the inside where much of the real evidence of this is to be found, with some impressive specifications more than backing up that outlandish exterior.

The refashioned Mac Pro has been deemed by Apple as cramming "an amazing amount of power into an incredibly small package", and with the likes of dual workstation-class GPUs, ultra-fast ECC memory, next generation Xeon processors, Thunderbolt 2 and PCle- based flash storage all on board, you wouldn't be tempted to argue.
THE SIGNIFICANCE OF A UNIFIED THERMAL CORE
The Apple press release announcing the unveiling of the Mac Pro makes constant references to a "revolutionary" and "ingenious" unified thermal core, around which all of the aforementioned features are built. But what is it, and what does it do? Well, this element is central to a pro desktop architecture and design that is completely new and utterly optimized for performance. It allows for the efficient sharing of the desktop’s entire thermal capacity across all of the processors. If you're still trying to get your head around the idea of a ‘unified thermal core’, think of it this way. Computers are normally built with multiple heat sinks and fa so that the processor and graphic cards can be cooled. In the case of the Mac Pro, however, everything is built around a single piece of extruded aluminum, designed to ensure maximum airflow and thermal capacity. It involves heat being conducted away from the CPU and GPUs, and instead being distributed uniformly across the core. This means that in the event of one processor being forced to work harder than the others, the additional thermal capacity can be efficiently shared among them.
Apple says that it's the first time a computer has even been built in this way - a firm indicator of the kind of innovation on which so much of its reputation rests. It's also because of this that the new machine can deliver such an impressive performance despite its volume being a mere eighth of that of that of the outgoing Mac Pro indeed, it measures a mere 9.9 inches tall with a diameter of 6.6 inches. But it's only when you take off the cover and see the vast array of inputs and outputs on the back panel that you get a sense of precisely how much is packed inside. Such a vast range of ports is as you might expect, pretty useful, as we'll cover in more detail below.

IMPRESSIVE COMPUTING POWER
Everywhere we look Apple makes reference to a device that boasts so much speed and power from the two AMD FirePro workstation-class GPUs that help to make the new Mac Pro up to 2.5 times faster than the current one, to the PCle- based flash storage that is as much as 10 times faster than conventional desktop hard drives. Customers can also expect double the floating point performance thanks to next generation Intel Xeon E5 processors that have up to 12 core configurations. You can also expect as much as 6OGBps of memory bandwidth from the new machine, courtesy of the most recent four-channel ECC DDR3 memory running at 1866 MHz. Certainly the use of ECC memory will be welcomed by those computer users who are all too familiar with transient memory errors stopping their video exports, rendering jobs and simulations. As many as 7 teraflops of computing power are promised, which Apple claims is sufficient for the seamless editing of full-resolution 4K video at the same time background effects are being rendered.
This GPU performance compares to the 2.7 teraflops delivered by the current Mac Pro. It represents part of a general transition from the CPU to the GPU in terms of the place where software developers have found the power to leverage for their apps. Various other areas of innovation At this point you might also be wondering about the fans after all, such a high performance device also inevitably requires a great amount of cooling. Well, instead of simply having a larger number of fans, Apple has opted for one bigger fan albeit a supremely well-engineered one that pulls air upward through a bottom vent.

The extraordinarily simple, elegant and quiet system involves air passing vertically through the centre of the device, absorbing the heat and carrying it out through the top and it's only possible thanks to careful consideration of every aspect of the fan through the design process, including the blades’ number, size, shape and spacing. Air resistance throughout the system has been minimized so that the resultant backward-curved impeller blades can run at fewer resolutions per minute and draw air more efficiently as they spin and bring a significant reduction in noise. As you might expect, the wireless system is also an advanced one, with three stream 802.11ac Wi-Fi being used to access the network. Bluetooth 4.0 is used for all of the Mac Pro’s other wireless connections.
WHEN WILL IT BE RELEASED?
This is one area in which Apple has been a bit shier to divulge details, merely promising a release "later this year.” But when it does finally arrive, on the basis of this specification sheet, the new machine will certainly have no shortage of takers, many of whom will be curious to see the exact extent to which it can really be described as in Apple's words ”the most radical Mac yet".

All of the publicity material that has surrounded the new Mac Pro so far has been suitably bullish, with Apple claiming that every element that makes up a pro computer from the graphics and storage to processing power, memory and expansion has been reconsidered. It says that the result of all of its work is quite unlike anything that has gone before. Personally, we reckon the machine will live up to such a prodigious billing but we can only wait to find out.

Turn Your iPhone and iPod into a Multitrack Recorder

FourTrack app brings back the days of the cassette-based portastudio

VITAL INFO:
-DEVICE: iPhone
-DIFFICULTY: Beginner
-TIME REQUIRED: Varies

WHAT YOU NEED:
-FourTrack (£2.99, itun.es/i6JC9jS)
-iOS 4.3 or later

Sonoma’s FourTrack was one of the first multi-track recording apps for the iPhone and does a great job of mimicking the original concept, despite its limitations. That means, for example, you can’t erase a track that’s gone wrong – you can only record over it or use the navigation wheel to position the recording in the right spot, then drop in to record the ‘fix’ and then drop out again.
Having recorded on all four tracks, you can also ‘bounce’ them down to the first two tracks, then record again on to tracks three and four. The app comes with a compressor, parametric EQ and amps and effects for electric and acoustic guitarists. There’s even a selection of drums patterns to help keep you in time. FourTrack works best with an external mic, but is a brilliant modern take on the portastudio.

STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE:
1) Getting started: Download FourTrack from the App Store and tap the icon to begin. For anyone used to conventional digital recording where tracks are arranged like swimming pool lanes, this will be a shock. There are four tracks, each with a volume slider and pan wheel, and a Rec Arm button that readies the track for recording.
2) The first track: Tap the Rec Arm button at the foot of the first track. When you do, the big grey button at the bottom left of the screen will turn red. Slide it to the right and then start recording your first track. As you do, watch the LED meter to make sure that the volume does not stray up into the red and distort the recording.
3) Listening back: When you’re finished, FourTrack will rewind and arm the next track ready for recording. Alternatively, tap play to listen to the track you have just recorded, and if it’s okay, arm the next track manually and record that – as you do, the first track will play back at the same time. Here we’re playing back all four tracks.
4) Accessing song tools: Re-record any tracks you’re not happy with, either completely or by dragging the horizontal scroll wheel left or right to the point in the recording where you want to fix a mistake; as with real portastudios, this is an imperfect science. When you have finished, tap the Song Tools button and type in a name for the recording.
5) Bouncing tracks: Swipe the Song Tools screen to the left to reveal the editing screen. We’re going to ‘bounce’ our four tracks down to two. Tap Bounce and then tap To this Song. This will mix all four tracks and record them on to tracks one and two, then pan them left and right. You can now record on tracks three and four again.
6) Mixing the song: Return to Song Tools, tap Mixdown and then Mix this Song. FourTrack will mix your recording down to a stereo WAV file. At the next screen, tap the Wifi Sync button and follow the instructions to connect to a computer. After a moment, the song will appear on the computer screen. Click the Mix button to open it in iTunes.

Windows 8 Enhances the Benefits of Tablet PC

Windows 8 Tablets - Enterprise devices to work and play
The introduction of Windows 8 re-energized PC manufacturers, who turned their considerable ingenuity toward creating tablets with the full power of a notebook or laptop PC but with the size and weight of a tablet. Not since the early days of the PC revolution has there been such an abundance of innovative new hardware designs in my opinion.
Screen
Manufacturers use two types of touch screens on Windows 8 tablets: capacitive and resistive. Resistive screens are common, durable and inexpensive. A resistive screen absorbs some of the light, so the image may not be as sharp as with a capacitive screen at times. Capacitive screens let more light pass, so the images are sharp and clear. Capacitive screens only work with a finger touch, so you can’t use a stylus as you can with many resistive screens.

Windows 8 tablets usually have screen sizes between 10.6 and 12 inches. The additional screen real estate makes working much easier than on smaller tablets running iOS or Android. It also makes gaming feel much less cramped and you will find the experience more like what you would expect on a game console.

Memory
Windows 8 tablets come with 2, 4 or 8 GB of RAM. As with a PC, more memory improves performance. You will probably find a tablet with 2 GB of RAM much more limiting than one with 4GB, and with 8 GB, the machine will feel superfast and responsive.

Processor
Most Windows 8 tablets have super-fast processors such as the Qualcomm SnapDragon S4 dual-core ARM or the Intel SoC Clovertrail or Intel Core i5. If you must compromise on specs because of budget constraints, I would opt for more memory over a faster processor,

Keyboard
Many Windows 8 tablets have detachable keyboards that come in handy when you need to do real work. Many keyboards are smaller than those found on a standard notebook, but they are roomy and responsive enough to allow for the average touch typist.

Graphics
Every Windows 8 tablet currently on the market has more than adequate graphics capability for working or surfing the Internet, as well as for all but the most graphics intensive games in my opinion. Most graphics chips are the same ones used in Ultrabooks and small notebooks, so you can expect a similar performance with a similarly tricked out tablet.

Weight
Most Windows 8 tablets weigh slightly over a pound to a pound and a half. Any more than that and you will probably find the device is uncomfortable to hold in your hand for long periods when reading or streaming media.

Storage
With SSD drives, storage on Windows 8 tablets is fast and reliable. Most have either a 32GB or a 64GB SSD drive. Despite the negative publicity over storage size, nearly everyone will find this storage adequate for the operating system, applications, documents and emails. If you store vast amounts of media, be sure that your tablet has a micro SD slot so that you can store your media on a removable drive. In addition, Microsoft provides 7 GB of free cloud storage to Windows 8 owners, and more storage is available for a fee.

Connections
Unlike iOS devices, Windows 8 tablets usually over one or more USB 3.0 ports, wireless networking, Bluetooth and SD slots. They connect with almost any printer, and can easily send output to a monitor or projector, although this may require an adapter depending on the model you select.

Windows 8 tablets are lightweight, fast computers that enable users to accomplish real work tasks as well as to enjoy games, reading or other leisure activities. In my opinion, these devices make prior generations of tablets feel like crude toys, while these sleek and powerful machines cover nearly all computing requirements without compromises or restrictions on interoperability or connections.

E3 2013- Who won the Press Conference, Microsoft or Sony?

E3 2013- Who won the Press Conference, Microsoft or Sony?
Hands down, Sony took over the crowd with the PS4 with its gaming, titles, Ease of Access and most importantly, its price. This doesn’t mean Xbox one should be cornered, Wait!! May be it should be left aside. People and specially the Gaming community were dumb struck both at Microsoft’s Reveal event and E3 press conference.  Let’s take a look at each of these consoles, compare them, and find out why is xbox one so supernaturally dumb.

PS4 reveal event highlights

Xbox one reveal event highlights.

At first, we thought that Microsoft would bring gaming to a whole new level with its next gen console. But sadly, all we heard at it’s reveal event was ‘T.V’. Xbox one was revealed as if it was never intended for Gaming community rather for social community. Let’s have a glimpse of its Pros and Cons and then come to a verdict.

Pros
  • Next gen games like Forza motorsport 5, Call Of Duty:ghosts, Quantum Break look impressive on XBOX ONE.
  • Social Sharing at fingertips, live broadcasting and online competitions are truly next gen.
  • Kinect became more powerful alongside the console.
  • Live T.V, NBA streaming, Virtual Point system.
  • Microsoft points converted to local currency.
CONS
  • Always Online- What the fish is Microsoft upto?
  • Xbox one cannot play shared gamed, used games .
  • This engine is not backward compatible with 360 games. How disappointing?
  • Xbox One and Kinect are now married and so you cannot it is not in your hands if you want to buy kinect, YOU HAVE TO.
Verdict:
XBOX One mainly concentrated on Social sharing alongside the gaming. It is not so good and not so bad kind of Next gen console giving entertainment in it’s various forms. T.V and kinect make a great combination, Microsoft promised many exclusive titles and xbox one potential to play those games. We have to wait until we get our hands on the console. For now, we just know one thing from Microsoft, Xbox one is all-in-ONE entertainment system.

PLAYSTATION 4
Sony truly impressed the fans at E3 this year. Playstation 4 was totally concentrated on Gaming with it’s immersive, graphically intensive and most importantly social games.  PS4 and move make a great combination with new games rolling out for the duo. The Architecture, the structures are comparable to that of Xbox One, however PS4 doesn’t trouble you to be always online and other headaches. The next gen console is Clean, easy and lovable.  Social gaming is a key part on PS4 while giving its full power to single player.
Pros
  • This Next Gen console will trench the thirst for a truly Non-AI, Human like experience with games.
  • Exclusive titles like Infamous, final fantasy, uncharted, metal gear solid will be available for PS4 only.
  • The new GAI-KAI technology will connect the gamers across the globe superfast and with precision.
  • Online Multiplayer will be more fun.
  • Not always online.
  • Used games, shared games are playable.
CONS
  • The most liked ‘select’ and ‘start’ are now replaced by ‘share’ and ‘options’ buttons. It takes some time to getting used to it.
  • Nothing else for now.
Verdict:
PS4 is might be the new sexy. Play, Compete, Share, Friends- Ps4’s motive is amazing. The content it provides, the games it plays, the social media it gives, the friends it will bring to you will make you a couch potato with the Dual shock controller in your hand. We still have to find out how it does in real. A full review will be available here as soon as it hits the Markets.

Soundlogic Wireless Receiver and Speaker Review

Soundlogic Wireless Receiver and Speaker
Buying yourself a simple audio solution can either be a very expensive proposition if you choose to go big-name, or it can be affordable, if you look beyond the guys that advertise a lot. Something like this speaker from Soundlogic.
Multi-functional
The Soundlogic Wireless Receiver and Speaker is designed intelligently. It’s got a fairly effective suction pad that lets you clamp it to a wall or glass surface. This is especially useful if you want to use it in a car or in the shower. Oh yes, you can use it in the shower, since it is splash proof. We tried it out, and sure enough a few odd splashes didn’t really bother the system while it was working.

Sound quality
We decided to try out the speaker with some bass-heavy tracks, first off was a classic club anthem ‘Drop The Pressure’ by Mylo. The Soundlogic speaker is capable of loud volumes, far more than its size suggests. It isn’t the last word in definition or even punch and power for that matter, but it does a decent job when you consider the price and features that they’ve packed into this little device. As mentioned earlier, we did use this in the shower, and considering that isn’t somewhere we’ve had access to music before, we were happy on the whole.

Detachable receiver
Here’s where the Soundlogic is different. The tiny Bluetooth receiver in the center snaps right off. Connect that to any speakers or system through the 3.5mm jack and you’ve given that speaker the gift of Bluetooth. This is particularly useful, because there aren’t too many similar options in the market at this price. The battery on this receiver isn’t very large because of its size and naturally didn’t last too long, but that isn’t too much of a problem.

Using it in a car
The size, capabilities and suction pad mean this Soundlogic speaker is ideal to use in cars as a Bluetooth speaker device. The only problem here is the fact that it doesn’t have an in-built microphone, and your phone’s microphone would be needed if you aren’t the type who just listens. It’s a shame, because the addition of that one measly mic could have made this such a versatile product.

To conclude…
At this price (Rs. 2999), the Soundlogic speaker and receiver set is immense value if you’re looking for something portable and flexible for your car, room or bathroom. If you’re looking for something with more precise audio capabilities, you’ll have to up your budget and look elsewhere.

4 latest hot gadgets 2013

Panasonic P51 (Rs.26,990)
Panasonic has finally woken up to the fact that it has rather missed out on the scrumptious smartphone pie. Which is why it plans to bite back with the P51, mind you it is not a spec busting, competition annihilating, gizmotastic handheld from the future. Instead Pana has chosen to side with the masses with a phone that costs around the 25k margin. You might think this is just another Galaxy Grand or a Micromax Canvas HD. For the most part it is, but where the P51 shines and inches ahead of its competition is in its build quality with its gorgeous unibody design and the fact that it comes loaded with Android 4.2 out of the box. The phone feels fantastic to hold and its Quad-core innards make it snappy to use. Regardless of what is available in the market.
As hot as... being in the Iron Man suit, sans the AC!

Nokia Lumia 925 (Rs. 35,000)
As much as Android and its hardware cronies may try, Nokia just won’t be defeated. They’ve taken the Windows Phone market by storm, and offered a viable, not-so-buggy, if slightly under-apped alternative to the little green robot, while packing in all the right hardware at all the right price points. Now Android and Apple want to go aluminum in the fight to look more premium? SO CAN NOKIA. They want to put fancy cameras and high-res screens? DITTO FINLAND. You want a display that makes the phone too big for your hands? NOKIA KNOWS HOW. Now, they just need to figure out how to show the world that WP8 is actually a pretty neat OS. That would be the hard part.
As hot as... molten chocolate over a chocolate brownie

Huawei MediaPad 10 Link (Rs. 26,990)
We’d say Huawei’s brought its A-game to the tablet arena but we’d be lying. While it isn’t the spec-beast we’d like to call it, it’s a decent offering for the relatively low price tag. What you get for your 27k is a 10in tablet powered by Huawei’s home-grown K3V2 Quad-core processor combined with 1GB RAM, 16GBs of storage space, a 1280x800 screen and Android’s delicious Jelly Bean OS. Now, before you go about snapping your surroundings with the ultra grainy 3MP cam, you must know you’ll look like an idiot. Don’t do it. But, auditioning one of these well-priced tabs? Not such a dumb move after all.
As hot as… Your belly after a road-side ‘Chinese’ meal

Asus Transformer AiO (Rs. 86,999)
If you already have an all-in-one computer, such as an iMac, try ripping the screen off the body. What’s that? It’s stopped working? Sorry - that happens. But perhaps, you should replace the smashed remains of your previous computer with this Windows 8 touchsreen all-in-one from Asus. All-in-two, actually - pick the 18.4in screen up, and it works as a wireless display, beaming your PC interface across the ether or, thanks to a clever bit of dual booting, it’s also a completely independent (and completely massive) Android 4.0 tablet. Um… sorry about your old screen. Get one of these instead.
As hot as... summer on Cybertron

Share Photos and Videos from Digital Camera to your Mobiles and Tablets

Today everything revolves around social networks like Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and 9gag. When someone sees something special, funny or weird in any way, they will photograph it and publish on some social network. The connection between digital camera and internet, especially social network is more important than ever. People from Fujifilm decided to use this connection and make a digital camera that can in an easy and fast way share photos between smart phone and digital camera.
The Fuji FinePix F800 is a digital camera from Fujifilm that has one application for easier and better sharing photos between digital camera and your smart phone or tablet. The whole camera is very simple and elegant, it has elegant curves and it is available in three colors; red, blue and black. They made it with rubber edges to prevent it from slipping, which is great move. This camera has a manual pop up flash, which you can open with one button and you can close it just by putting it back in the camera. It is very easy to handle with simple commands. On the top of the camera there are few buttons, like the power button and function button. The great thing about this camera is that is has separate button for video control so you can start recording no matter what you are doing at the moment.
Fuji FinePix F800
This Fuji FinePix has 16.6 megapixels EXR CMOS sensor for high quality photographs. Photos taken with this digital camera are great, sharp and clear with great colors, even in low lights. This camera has great wide-angle which is perfect for landscapes or group photos. The video recorded with this digital camera is HQ with excellent stereo sound. This camera is different from other cameras because with it you can share your photos on the digital camera with you tablet. This is named Wireless Image Transfer. You can just turn it on and expect from it to work, you'll have to download an application to your smart phone or tablet named Fujifilm Photo Reciever

A Fujifilm Photo Reciever is an application made by Fujifilm for you to synchronize your Fuji digital camera with Wireless Image Transfer and your smart phone and tablet. It is compatible with both iPhones and Android smart phones and iPad and Android tablets, so you can download it for both brands on the internet. When you open the application, it shows you the list of the cameras with what you can use it. The application is free and compatible to almost every brand of tablet and smart phones on the market.

When you start this application, you can upload photos directly from your digital camera without any passwords or any kind of identification. You don't have to upload every picture separately; you can do it in about 30 pictures at a time, no more than 2 GB in size, which is a great thing. Before choosing which one you will download you can browse on you tablet and see which pictures you have and then choose only few you like.
